Objective Explore the clinical efficacy of microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery assisted by 3D Slicer virtual reality technology in the treatment of hemifacial spasm (HFS). Methods Eighty-four patients with HFS (Hemifacial Spasm) from the Department of Neurosurgery at Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Ethnic Hospital were selected as the research sample for this study, covering the period from July 2022 to April 2024. Based on the principle of the random number table method, they were divided into a control group (n=42, receiving conventional MVD treatment) and an observation group (n=42, undergoing MVD assisted by preoperative 3D Slicer three-dimensional reconstruction). The study compared the two groups in terms of pain intensity[Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores], quality of life[30-item Hemifacial Spasm Questionnaire (HFS-30) scores], clinical efficacy, postoperative complications, and recurrence rates. Results The VAS score of the observation group at 12 hours postoperatively was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). At 2 months post-surgery, the HFS-30 questionnaire score in the observation group was also lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The overall therapeutic efficacy rate in the observation group reached 92.86%, which was significantly higher than the 71.43% observed in the control group. Additionally, the complication rate in the observation group was 4.76%, lower than the 19.05% in the control group (P<0.05). One-year follow-up results indicated that the recurrence rate in the observation group was 4.76% (2/42), which was lower than the 7.14% (3/42) in the control group. Conclusion MVD treatment for HFS assisted by 3D Slicer virtual reality technology demonstrates significant advantages, as it can enhance surgical efficacy, reduce complications, making it worthy of clinical promotion and application.
