Abstract

Objective This study was designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Waff exercise combined with electrical stimulation and biofeedback in the treatment of postpartum stress urinary incontinence. Methods 90 patients with postpartum stress urinary incontinence treated in the Pelvic Floor and Postpartum Rehabilitation Center of Changsha Maternity and Child Health Hospital from February 2022 to March 2023 were selected . They were randomly classified into the control group and the intervention group, with 45 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional electrical stimulation and biofeedback for the pelvic floor, whereas the intervention group was treated with Waff exercise on the basis of the control group. The patients were supervised to complete all the treatments within 3 months. The results of the urine pad test and clinical symptoms, the questionnaire of Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI) and the Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (I-QOL) were compared before and after the treatment. Results After treatment, the urine leakage in the one-hour urine pad test and the questionnaire of Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI) in the two groups were decreased, while the patients' self-conscious symptoms, pelvic floor muscle strength and the Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (I-QOL) were improved. Compared with the control group, the patients in intervention group had statistically significant differences in subjective aspects, including self-conscious symptoms and quality of life, and objective aspects, e. g. , 1 hour urine pad test, the pelvic-abdominal dynamic disorder of postpartum women, and floor muscle strength. Conclusion Waff exercise combined the elctrical stimulation enhance the pelvic floor muscle's movement perception and pelvic floor muscles strength, and it reduces urine leakage to improve the life quality of patients.
