Comparison of the Effects of Different Intensities of Exercise Rehabilitation Training on Shoulder Joint Dysfunction

Abstract

Objective To compare the effects of different intensities of exercise rehabilitation training on shoulder joint dysfunction. Methods Eighty-five patients with shoulder joint dysfunction were selected from March 2021 to March 2024 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University in Huai'an, and were randomly divided into a high-intensity group (n=42) and a low-intensity group (n=43) using the envelope drawing method. The high-intensity group received high-intensity exercise rehabilitation training, while the low-intensity group received low-intensity exercise rehabilitation training. The therapeutic effects, shoulder joint function, shoulder joint scores, and range of motion (ROM) of the two groups were compared before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the rate of excellent and good outcomes was higher in the low-intensity group than in the high-intensity group. The low-intensity group scored higher in the Constant-Murley Shoulder Outcome Score (CMS) in terms of pain, daily activities, joint range of motion, and muscle strength compared to the high-intensity group. In the University of California Shoulder Rating Scale (UCLASS), the low-intensity group showed better scores in pain, function, shoulder flexion angle, shoulder flexion muscle strength, and satisfaction compared to the high-intensity group. Measures of shoulder flexion, shoulder abduction, internal rotation in a lateral position, and external rotation in a lateral position were also higher in the low-intensity group than in the high-intensity group. Conclusion Low-intensity exercise rehabilitation training has a more significant impact on the treatment efficacy, shoulder joint function, shoulder joint scores, and ROM in patients with shoulder joint dysfunction.
