Objective To develop a chronic disease health literacy evaluation scale suitable for Chinese adolescents, and to evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods According to the principle of stratified cluster sampling, 3 077 valid samples were selected in Bao'an District, Shenzhen. All research subjects were randomly divided into two groups: 1 538 people's data was used to explore the structure of the scale, and 1 539 people's data was used to verify the results obtained. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed on the obtained data using SPSS 25 and AMOS24 software. Results The final result is the Adolescent Chronic Disease Health Literacy Scale with 36 items, containing eight dimensions: health concepts, chronic disease health literacy, mental health literacy, health skills, health behaviours, healthy eating, communicative health literacy, and critical health literacy. The cumulative contribution of variance was 78.84%, the Cronbach's ɑ coefficient of the scale's table was 0.960, and the Cronbach's ɑ coefficients of the dimensions were 0.816-0.949. The split-half reliability was 0.873, and the split-half coefficients of each dimension ranged from 0.704 to 0.928. The test-retest reliability was 0.869, and the test-retest reliabilities of each dimension ranged from 0.807 to 0.893. The item reliability (SMC) of each dimension ranged from 0.498 to 0.991. The composite reliability coefficient values (CR) ranged from 0.810 to 0.950. The values of the convergent validity (AVE) ranged from 0.516 to 0.848. The square root values of the Average Variance Extracted (AVE) for each dimension were all greater than the correlation coefficients between this dimension and other dimensions. Conclusion The youth chronic disease health literacy scale has good validity and internal consistency, and has good promotion and application value.
