Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of corticotomy combined with accelerator assisted orthodontic tooth movement, and to evaluate the clinical value of this method as an auxiliary means to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement. Methods A total of 15 patients with bimaxillary protrusion treated with invisible extraction in the Department of Orthodontics of our hospital during 2022—2023 were selected. The left and right maxillary quadrants were measured, and a total of 30 samples were selected. Group A was treated with corticotomy combined with accelerator, group B was treated with corticotomy, and group C was treated with clear aligner. The digital model and CBCT images were collected before and after anterior teeth retraction for 3 months. The amount and rate of maxillary canine movement and the amount of maxillary anterior root resorption were evaluated. Results After anterior teeth retraction, the maxillary canine movement in group A and group B was significantly greater than that in group C, but there was no significant difference between group A and group B. In the first month of retraction, the maxillary canine movement rate in group A and group B was significantly higher than that in group C, but there was no significant difference between group A and group B. There was no significant difference in canine movement rate between the three groups from the second month to the third month. All the anterior teeth had some root resorption after retraction, and the central incisors and canines had more root resorption than the lateral incisors, but there was no statistically significant difference among the three groups. Conclusion The accelerators have no synergistic effect on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement and the rate of root resorption during corticotomy. Corticotomy can effectively accelerate the rate of orthodontic tooth movement, but has no significant effect on reducing the rate of root resorption.
