Abstract

Objective To localize the Medical Student Stress Scale (MSSS) and test its reliability and validity among Chinese medical students. Methods Constructing a Chinese version of the MSSS through the process of translation, back-translation and cross-cultural adaptation.Multi-stage random sampling was adapted to survey 882 medical students, and reliability and validity of the scale was test. Results Exploratory factor analysis revealed 2 main factors with a cumulative variance explained of 52.970%. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good model fit (χ²/df=2.47, RMSEA=0.07, RMR=0.03). The content validity index ranged from 0.75 to 1, with an average of 0.84. The internal consistency Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.933, The test-retest reliability was 0.908, and the split-half reliability was 0.861. Conclusions The Chinese version of the MSSS demonstrates good reliability and validity, suitable for assessing the stress of medical students in the Chinese cultural context.
