Effects of self-disclosure nursing intervention on perceptive social support, anxiety and coping styles in maintenance hemodialysis patients

Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of self-disclosure nursing intervention on social support, anxiety and coping style of maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods A total of 94 patients with maintenance hemodialysis were divided into control group and intervention group, 47 patients in each group. The control group received routine nursing, and the intervention group implemented self-disclosure intervention on the basis of the control group. The level of self-disclosure, perceptive social support, anxiety and coping style scores before and after intervention were compared between the two groups. Results Before intervention, there were no significant differences in the scores of self-disclosure, understanding of social support, anxiety and positive coping styles between the two groups. After 6 weeks of intervention, the scores of self-disclosure, perceptive social support and coping style in the intervention group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the scores of anxiety and negative coping style were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Self-disclosure intervention can improve the self-disclosure ability, understanding social support level and positive coping level of MHD patients, and improve the anxiety of MHD patients.
