Abstract

Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-efficacy on self-perceived burden and health literacy in patients with thyroid cancer. Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select patients with thyroid cancer from a tertiary Grade-A hospital in Changsha,Hunan Province from October 2022 to April 2023. A general data questionnaire,electronic health literacy scale,self-perceived burden scale,and general self-efficacy scale were used to investigate them. Results The total score of health literacy,self-perceived burden and self-efficacy were（26.14±5.62）,（22.83±8.45）and（23.54±6.69）,respectively. Health literacy was negatively correlated with self-perceived burden,health literacy was positively correlated with self-efficacy,and self-perceived burden was negatively correlated with self-efficacy. Linear regression analyses showed that self-efficacy played a fully mediating effect in the influence of health literacy on self-perceived burden in thyroid cancer patients. Conclusion Self-perceived burden of illness needs to be reduced in thyroid cancer patients,and health literacy can influence the level of self-perceived burden of illness through the mediating role of self-efficacy.
