Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between cognitive dysfunction and vitamin D, nutritional status in elderly patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of 237 elderly patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases admitted to the hospital between January 2021 and June 2022. The cognitive function of all patients was evaluated by mini-mental state examination (MMSE). The differences in basic and clinical data among patients with different cognitive function were compared. The relationship between cognitive dysfunction and vitamin D, nutritional status was analyzed. Results In the 237 elderly patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, there were 84 cases with cognitive dysfunction. Correlation analysis showed that MMSE score was positively correlated with score of Mini-Nutrition Assessment (MNA) and level of vitamin D. The proportions of smoking-drinking history and diabetes mellitus in patients with cognitive dysfunction were higher than those with normal cognitive function, MNA score and levels of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3[1, 25- (OH) 2D3] and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were lower than those with normal cognitive function, and level of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was higher than that with normal cognitive function. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that diabetes mellitus, HDL-C ≤1.00 mmol/L, LDL-C ≥3.40 mmol/L, MAN score <17 points and 1, 25- (OH) 2D3 ≤50 nmol/L were independent influencing factors of cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Conclusion The level of vitamin D and nutritional status are closely related to cognitive function in elderly patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Low level of vitamin D and poor nutritional status are independent risk factors of cognitive dysfunction.
