Status and influencing factors of drug literacy in rural elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases |

Abstract Objective To explore the current status and influencing factors of drug literacy in rural elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases. Method 486 rural elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases were selected by multistage random sampling. General data questionnaire, a self-administered Drug Literacy Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale and Self-efficacy scale for managing chronic disease were used to carry the survey, The multiple logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of drug literacy. Results The total score of drug literacy among 486 rural elderly cardiovascular disease patients in Hunan province was (111.00 ± 12.36), the total social support score was (38.78 ± 7.26), and the chronic disease management self-efficacy score was (6.30 ± 1.77). The results of the Logistic regression analysis showed that age, level of social support, Self-care ability, and medication education were the influencing factors of medication literacy. Conclusion Drug literacy in rural elderly patients with cardiovascular disease was moderate, and Age over 80, low level of social support, lack of relevant drug education, and being unable to take care of themselves completely were risk factors for drug literacy in rural elderly patients with cardiovascular disease.
