Abstract Objective To investigate the status of depression in older adults with chronic diseases in community and explore the mediating effect of resilience between depression and perceived social support. Methods Convenience sampling and simple random sampling were used to investigate 276 older adults with chronic diseases in community by socio-demographic characteristics questionnaire, Zung self-rating depression scale, perceived social support scale and Connor-Davidson resilience scale. SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze the data and AMOS 24.0 was used to construct the structural equation model and test the mediation effect. Results The total scores of depression, perceived social support and resilience were (37.05±7.18), (57.78±12.09) and (51.35±8.51), respectively. Depression was negatively correlated with perceived social support and resilience scores. Multiple linear regression results showed that self-care ability, living style, times of acute exacerbations, perceived social support and resilience were important factors affecting depression. Resilience played a partial mediating role between perceived social support and depression, with a mediating contribution rate of 48.59%. Conclusion The level of depression in older adults with chronic diseases in community is not optimistic. Resilience plays an intermediary role in perceived social support and depression.
